Marijuana likes sunlight and while the crop should have eight hours of sunlight a day, the optimum amount of direct sunlight should be at least three hours a day for the crop to do as well as it can. The grass crop will grow faster with about five hours of direct sunlight, but with a hidden crop that might not be possible.
The three hours of sunlight, also matters what time of day the pot plants get this light. The marijuana plant responds better to morning sunlight, rather than afternoon sunlight that also hits during the heat of the day. The morning sunlight gently dries any dew from the marijuana plants, and at the same time warms the soil for the day.
